Human Trafficking Draft Law on the Shura Council's Agenda

The Legislative and Legal Committee of the Shura Council met with the National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking as part of its study of the draft law on combating human trafficking, referred by the government.
During the meeting, chaired by H.E. Dr. Ahmed Ali Al-Saadi, Head of the Committee, the key provisions of the draft law were reviewed with the specialists to discuss the justifications for the law, seek their opinions, and listen to their observations regarding the draft law.
The meeting also presented the committee's remarks on several topics addressed in the draft law to the specialists. The committee reviewed provisions of related international agreements and examined the compatibility of the law's provisions with other laws within the Sultanate of Oman.
The law provides additional legal protection for victims, compared to the existing law, to achieve general deterrence and curb human trafficking crimes in Oman.
The Sultanate of Oman continues its continuous and diligent efforts to combat human trafficking and is one of the first countries to issue specific legislation to eliminate this criminal deviation, namely the Human Trafficking Law in its original form, which was issued by a Royal Decree in 2008.
The meeting was held as part of the third session of the second regular term (2024-2025) of the tenth term (2023-2027), Head of the Committee and in the presence of their Excellencies members of the committee.
