His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Hilal Al Ma'awali, Chairman of the Shura Council, underscored the crucial importance of Arab unity in restoring the Arab nation's position and strength among the global community. In his address at the opening session of the 36th Conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, held in the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria from May 26-27, he called for rebuilding bridges of trust and fraternity and resolving conflicts and disputes that only benefit the enemies of the Arab nation. The session was attended by His Excellency Mr. Ibrahim Boughali, Chairman of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, along with distinguished leaders and representatives of Arab parliaments.

Al Ma'awali highlighted that the aggression on Gaza has revealed the falsehood of slogans advocating freedom, as the right of veto fails to uphold justice and rights. He urged the abolition of practices that place the fate of people and nations in the hands of those who disregard justice. He emphasized that calls for peace must be grounded on a solid foundation and a unified Arab stance that recognizes the occupation only respects the language of strength and confrontation.

Furthermore, Al Ma'awali commended the role of free media in shedding light on the just cause of Palestine and exposing the atrocities of the brutal occupation. He reaffirmed that resistance is a legitimate right for any occupied nation defending its land and people.

His Excellency also noted the global protests by university students and citizens, reflecting a clear understanding of the true situation and the unacceptable crimes of Zionism. He praised the international community, where over 140 countries have recommended Palestine's full membership in the United Nations, thereby granting it full rights and obligations. He expressed hope that this global stance would gain unanimous support from all members of the UN Security Council to fulfill the requirements for full membership.

In conclusion, Al Ma'awali called for a unified stance to halt the brutal aggression by all available means, highlighting that the occupying entity continues to expand and commit atrocities, turning cities like Rafah into scenes of executions and assaults, with tens of thousands of casualties.

The 36th Conference deliberated on the current situations in the Arab region, the challenges facing Arab cooperation, and strategies to enhance collaboration among member states. It also addressed the latest developments in the Palestinian cause and the ongoing aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza, focusing on providing support to the Palestinian people.

The conference included several committee sessions, such as the Palestine Committee, the Social Affairs Committee, the Women, Child, and Youth Committee, and the Political Affairs and Parliamentary Relations Committee.

The Omani delegation to the conference was led by His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Hilal Al Ma'awali, Chairman of the Shura Council, and included honorable members Sheikh Sultan bin Mutar Al Azaizi, Lamia bint Abbas Asad Allah Al Bahrani from the State Council, and H.E. Ahmed bin Ali Al Shihi, H.E. Dr. Hamoud bin Ahmed Al Yahyai, and H.E. Ali bin Salem Al Wahaibi from the Shura Council.

It is noteworthy that the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, through these conferences, aims to fortify Arab parliamentary cooperation as a cornerstone of Arab solidarity. The union seeks to represent the collective will of the Arab people, enhance coordination and collaboration among member states, and engage with representatives of executive authorities in Arab countries.

One of its primary objectives is to foster cooperation, coordination, and consensus on critical issues, topics, challenges, and threats facing the Arab world across various forums. Additionally, the union is committed to supporting the rights of Arab youth, women, and children, promoting communication and cooperation with civil society organizations and other Arab institutions.

Moreover, the union emphasizes the importance of dialogue and organizing joint parliamentary activities to streamline Arab efforts across multiple sectors. This approach ensures a cohesive strategy in addressing common concerns and advancing collective interests in different areas.
