The Council’s delegation is headed by H.E. Khalid Hilal Al Maawali, Chairman of the Shura Council. The participation reflects the Council’s commitment to strengthening its presence in regional and international parliamentary forums and underscores its role in supporting joint Islamic parliamentary action and enhancing cooperation and coordination among the Union’s member councils and parliaments.
The Council’s participation comes amid the Union’s continued efforts to advance mechanisms for joint parliamentary action and strengthen the role of parliamentary diplomacy in addressing issues of common concern to Islamic countries. It also seeks to reinforce cooperation and consultation among member parliaments in support of development and stability and to promote the principles of dialogue and mutual understanding among peoples.
The Session is scheduled to include a number of specialised meetings of the Union’s standing committees to discuss various items on the agenda. Participants will also review, discuss and adopt a number of draft resolutions and recommendations submitted by the competent committees, in addition to considering reports presented by the Union’s subsidiary bodies and institutions outlining their programmes, activities and initiatives during the previous period.
The Conference will further address a number of organisational and procedural matters relating to the Union’s work, including the nomination of members to the Union’s General Committee for its forthcoming meeting and the nomination of members to the Executive Committee for the upcoming term, with the aim of enhancing the Union’s institutional effectiveness and further developing the framework of joint parliamentary cooperation among member states.
As part of the Session’s programme, the Shura Council will participate in the consultative meeting of the Arab Group within the Union, which serves as a platform for coordination and consultation among Arab member parliaments on matters included on the Conference agenda. The meeting is expected to discuss several organisational issues, most notably the election of the President of the 21st Session of the Conference and the nomination of four representatives from the Arab Group to each of the Union’s four specialised standing committees in preparation for their forthcoming meetings.

As part of the meetings held on the sidelines of the Conference, H.E. Ahmed Mohammed Al Nadabi, Secretary-General of the Shura Council, participated today (Monday) in the Seventh Meeting of the Association of Secretaries General of the Councils of the Member States of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States.
