Ahmed Mohammed Al Nadabi, Secretary General of the Shura Council, participated today (Wednesday), via videoconference, in the 23rd meeting of the Parliamentary Coordination and Foreign Relations Committee of the legislative councils of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) States, with the participation of representatives from the GCC legislative councils.
The meeting discussed follow-up on the implementation of the strategy to enhance the momentum of GCC parliamentary cooperation and reviewed mechanisms for advancing joint parliamentary action. It also examined ways to strengthen coordination in upcoming regional and international parliamentary conferences and meetings. Participants further reviewed a memorandum submitted by the GCC General Secretariat concerning the approved strategy and its implementation mechanism, and discussed the timeline for achieving its four strategic objectives, foremost among them the exchange of expertise between legislative councils through the organization of workshops and presentations of parliamentary experiences via videoconference.
The meeting also addressed the program for exchanging visits among council staff members in accordance with a multi-year timetable, and approved the inclusion of a standing agenda item to propose parliamentary issues of common interest, with a view to discussing them and issuing joint mechanisms or statements.
Participants further examined the memorandum of the GCC General Secretariat regarding the GCC–European Parliamentary Committee, and approved the agenda themes for the 18th regular meeting with Members of the European Parliament, underscoring the importance of establishing an organized and sustainable parliamentary dialogue with the European side. The meeting also called for the participation of the Head of the GCC Mission to the European Union in the committee’s work, and for coordination to hold the second meeting with the Arabian Peninsula Delegation at the European Parliament.
Also participating in the meeting, alongside the Secretary General of the Council, were Talal Said Al Maharbi and Khamis Hamdan Al Ghafri, Members of the Council.
