The Shura Council participated, represented by Dr. Hamoud Ahmed Al Yahyaei, Member of the Council, in the meeting of the Temporary Parliamentary Diplomatic Committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), held in Cairo, Arab Republic of Egypt, with the participation of representatives of Arab parliaments. The meeting was convened within the framework of strengthening joint Arab parliamentary action and coordinating positions on a number of regional and international issues.
During the meeting, participants discussed several topics aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of Arab representation in international parliamentary fora and developing mechanisms for coordination and consultation among Arab parliaments. The meeting reviewed arrangements for preparing the draft emergency item that the Arab parliamentary group intends to submit during the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), scheduled to be held in Istanbul, Republic of Türkiye, in April. Proposals under consideration were also examined, and mechanisms for formulating a unified Arab position reflecting the priorities and orientations of Arab States regarding current international issues were discussed.
Participants further deliberated on proposals to develop the voting mechanism on the emergency item within the IPU Assembly, in a manner that enhances procedural efficiency, provides broader opportunities for consensus among geopolitical groups, and strengthens the effectiveness of collective parliamentary influence on issues of common interest.
The meeting also addressed ways to prepare a coordination agreement with the African Group within the IPU, aimed at enhancing prior consultation and coordination between the two sides, supporting the development of shared positions on a number of international issues, and reinforcing Arab–African parliamentary partnership within the framework of multilateral parliamentary action at the IPU.
In a related context, the Temporary Parliamentary Diplomatic Committee held a meeting via videoconference with a delegation from the Inter-Parliamentary Union, during which the IPU’s institutional strategy, priorities, and future programs were reviewed. The meeting also explored opportunities to expand cooperation between the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, including the exchange of legislative expertise, development of capacity-building programs, strengthening institutional dialogue channels, and enhancing coordination on issues of mutual interest at both regional and international levels.
The discussions further highlighted the importance of strengthening parliamentary diplomacy in supporting international cooperation pathways and consolidating dialogue among parliaments as an effective tool for promoting mutual understanding and addressing shared issues. The meeting also examined ways to develop institutional communication mechanisms between the two unions in line with rapidly evolving international developments.

This meeting forms part of the ongoing efforts of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union to enhance coordination among Arab parliaments, activate joint parliamentary action, unify visions and positions in international fora, strengthen the presence of the Arab voice, support international parliamentary partnerships, and consolidate the role of parliamentary diplomacy in advancing development, stability, and international cooperation.
