Shura Council Hosts Experts from the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights

The Shura Council welcomed experts from the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights this morning (Monday) as part of efforts to enhance mutual cooperation and exchange expertise in the fields of legislation and human rights, contributing to Oman’s ongoing efforts in this area.
 
 
The delegation was received by H.E. Dr. Ahmed Ali Al-Saadi, head of the Legal and Legislative Committee of the Council, and in the presence of their Excellencies members of the committee. During the meeting, H.E. praised the role played by the High Commissioner in supporting human rights principles on an international level, reaffirming the Sultanate of Oman's commitment to continuing its efforts in protecting human rights within the framework of its national vision and existing legislation.
 
During the visit, both sides discussed ways to enhance technical cooperation and knowledge exchange, as well as addressed several issues of mutual interest, particularly those related to the development of national legislation in line with international human rights standards.
 
The experts expressed their satisfaction with the existing laws and legislation in the Sultanate of Oman, noting that they align with the goals and objectives of the United Nations.
 
 
The delegation toured the Council’s premises, including the debating hall, where officials from the Council's General Secretariat provided a detailed explanation of the Council's working mechanisms and legislative role, alongside an overview of the procedures followed in discussing draft laws and proposals during the Council's sessions.
 
This visit is part of the ongoing cooperation between the Shura Council and various international bodies and organizations, aimed at exchanging experiences and enhancing transparency and legislative development for the public good.
