Shura Council to Discuss First Ministerial Statement of the Tenth term

25 فبراير 2024

The Shura Council is set to host His Excellency Dr. Said bin Mohammed Al Saqri, the Minister of Economy, on the upcoming Wednesday, February 28th. During its fifth regular sitting of the first annual session of the tenth term (2023-2027), the Minister will present the Ministry of Economy's statement in an open sitting.
This announcement was made by H.E Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Naddabi, the Secretary-General of the Shura Council. He highlighted that Minister Al Saqri's statement marks the first ministerial statement to be discussed by the Shura Council during the inaugural annual term of the tenth session. The statement will address three main axes, beginning with an assessment of Oman's economic performance, showcasing initiatives and projects of the Ministry of Economy, especially those related to the targeted economic sectors' contributions to the GDP, achieved growth rates and the performance of the National Program for Economic Diversification (Tanweea'). The statement will also address significant challenges faced.

The second axis involves evaluating the overall economic performance until the midpoint of the tenth five-year development plan (2021-2025). The third axis delves into the role of the Ministry of Economy in confronting regional and international economic changes. This will be achieved by reviewing economic policies, developmental planning laws, and measures taken to enhance Oman's competitiveness in various global indicators.

It is worth noting that the discussion of the ministerial statement is in accordance with Article 69 of the Law of the Shura Council. This article stipulates that, at the beginning of each annual session, the Shura Council decides the program of ministerial statements and their discussion axes to be presented during the session based on a joint proposal from the Council's office and the heads of the standing committees. The Council's President informs the government of this program, specifying the elements and axes that each statement should include, based on the topic or sector concerned by the statement.
