Food and Water Committee hosts the Oman Fishermen Association

The Food & Water Security Committee hosted the Oman Fishermen Association to identify challenges facing the artisanal fishing sector in the Sultanate of Oman.
The meeting discussed the main regulatory challenges facing the artisanal fishing sector, and the issue of bulk migrant workers who illegally crowded into national labour. Some of the problems associated with unauthorized expatriate forces were mentioned, including the topic of overfishing of surface fish.

The meeting emphasized the need to intensify the monitoring and oversight aspect and to intensify sanctions to deter such employment and address the challenges associated with it, in accordance with the Living Water Wealth.

The meeting also discussed the possibility of raising the efficiency and organizing government support and incentives for artisanal fishermen through the Fisheries Development Fund, as well as strengthening social incentives for artisanal fishermen in the Sultanate of Oman.

This discussion came as part of the Sixth meeting of the Committee for the First Annual Session (2023-2024) of the Tenth Term, chaired by H.E. Khwaidim Mohammad Salem AI-Maashani Head of the Committee and in the presence of their Excellencies members of the committee.
