The Legislative and Legal Committee of the Shura Council continued its deliberations on the proposed Anti-Trafficking Law referred by the government. On Wednesday, the committee hosted the Chair and members of the Omani Human Rights Committee to gather their insights and observations regarding the proposed legislation.
During the meeting, the committee discussed the provisions of the draft law with members of the Omani Human Rights Committee, examining potential shortcomings and challenges in the existing law. They also assessed the alignment of the proposed law with relevant international agreements and conventions.
This discussion was part of the committee’s fourth regular meeting for the second annual session (2024–2025) of the council’s 10th term. It was chaired by H.E. Dr. Ahmed Ali Al-Saadi, Chairman of the Legislative and Legal Committee, with the attendance of committee members.
The proposed Anti-Trafficking Draft Law is an updated version of the existing legislation, aiming to align it with current legal frameworks such as the Penal Code and to meet the requirements of international agreements. The revisions address practical gaps and deficiencies observed during its application, ensuring it is equipped to tackle emerging challenges in combating trafficking crimes. The law seeks to introduce enhanced measures for the protection of victims and incorporates best practices from regional and international experiences.
