In the Framework of Strengthening Economic and Cultural Cooperation Shura Council Chairman Receives ASEAN Heads of Mission Accredited to the Sultanate of Oman

His Excellency Khalid Hilal Al Maawali, Chairman of the Shura Council, received today (Wednesday) at the Council headquarters the Heads of Mission of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) accredited to the Sultanate of Oman.
During the meeting, emphasis was placed on Oman’s efforts to strengthen its relations with ASEAN countries and its genuine desire to build bridges of cooperation with the Association, with which it shares a long-standing maritime and commercial history. Discussions also highlighted the importance of fostering effective partnerships that enhance economic, cultural, and developmental integration between the two sides, particularly through joint agreements in free trade and strategic cooperation.
The meeting was also attended by His Excellency Ahmed Mohammed Al Nadhabi, Secretary-General of the Shura Council.
It is noteworthy that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), established on 8 August 1967, is a regional organization that seeks to promote economic, political, security, social, and cultural cooperation among Southeast Asian countries. ASEAN currently comprises ten member states: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia. Its goals include fostering economic development, establishing a free trade area, maintaining regional peace and stability, preventing conflicts, and promoting cooperation in cultural, educational, and social fields.
