Shura Council Task Force on the Knowledge Economy Holds Its First Meeting and Reviews Sector Indicators and Work Program

The Task Force for the Study of the State of the Knowledge Economy at the Shura Council held its first meeting this morning (Tuesday) during the Third Ordinary Session (2025–2026) of the Tenth Term (2023–2027), as part of the Shura Council’s efforts to enhance the role of the knowledge economy and support comprehensive development pathways in the coming phase.
During the meeting, the Task Force reviewed and discussed working papers related to the knowledge economy, including mechanisms for data and statistics collection and the identification of relevant sources. The meeting also reviewed the entities proposed to be hosted during the Task Force’s activities, and discussed and approved the timeline for its work, in a manner that ensures institutional integration and the achievement of the intended objectives.
The Task Force further reviewed key indicators of the knowledge economy in the Sultanate of Oman, based on national and international data and indicators related to education, scientific research, innovation, information and communication technology, human development, and competitiveness.
The meeting also discussed the importance of utilizing these data in building clear future outlooks and formulating practical visions that contribute to strengthening the role of the knowledge economy in supporting sustainable development pathways, and enhancing the efficiency of related policies and programs. This reflects the Task Force’s commitment to proceeding on the basis of sound scientific and methodological foundations, and to building an integrated vision grounded in reliable statistical data and recognized measurement indicators that contribute to the development of relevant policies and programs.
The meeting further addressed the current state of the knowledge economy and its levels of development over recent years, identifying growth trends and areas of improvement, in addition to the challenges that continue to face this vital sector.
Such discussions are expected to assist the Task Force in building a reliable information framework that will serve as a core pillar for its upcoming work, and contribute to formulating realistic and implementable recommendations that reflect the requirements of the current phase and align with national orientations and Oman Vision 2040.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Abdulaziz Al Hashmi, Head of the Knowledge Economy Task Force, and attended by the Task Force members.
