17 سبتمبر 2025

The Shura Council, represented by Ahmed Mohammed Al-Nadabi, Secretary-General of the Council, and Council members Khamis Hamdan Al-Ghafri and Talal Said Al-Muharbi, took part this morning (Wednesday) in the 21st meeting of the Parliamentary Coordination and Foreign Relations Committee, convened under the framework of the meetings of the Speakers of GCC Legislative Councils. The meeting was held via video conference.
During the session, members of the Committee discussed a number of issues related to strengthening joint parliamentary cooperation. Among these was the coordination mechanism between GCC legislative councils and the European Parliament, aimed at enhancing mutual understanding and opening new horizons for parliamentary dialogue with one of the world’s leading legislative bodies.
The meeting also reviewed mechanisms for implementing a strategy designed to increase the momentum of GCC parliamentary cooperation at various levels, including the exchange of expertise, coordination of positions in international forums, and the establishment of sustainable partnerships that promote legislative integration among GCC states.
Deliberations further covered a proposed memorandum of understanding between the Shura, Representatives, National, and Nation Councils of the GCC and the parliaments of Latin America and the Caribbean (GRULAC). The proposed MoU seeks to strengthen parliamentary relations with Latin American and Caribbean countries and expand consultation on issues of common interest, particularly in sustainable development, economic cooperation, and social engagement.
Participants underscored the importance of the role played by GCC legislative councils in supporting the course of joint Gulf action and in building bridges of communication with regional and international parliamentary institutions. They stressed that such efforts consolidate the presence of GCC councils in international forums and reflect their commitment to advancing shared interests.
This meeting forms part of the regular sessions of the Parliamentary Coordination and Foreign Relations Committee, which represents an important platform for unifying GCC perspectives, reinforcing collective parliamentary action, and consolidating partnerships with parliaments worldwide, thereby serving the common interests of GCC states and enhancing their standing on the international stage.
