Youth Committee discusses the Implementation of National Service for General Diploma Graduates

The Youth and Human Resources Committee discussed, the proposal regarding the implementation of national service for general diploma graduates, which was submitted by H.E. Taher Mabkhout Al-Junaibi, Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council. The committee heard the justifications and objectives of the proposal.
The meeting indicated that the aim of the proposal is to provide an opportunity to strengthen national belonging, instill good values, and develop personal skills such as discipline. Additionally, it emphasized the importance of setting regulations for those who drop out of general education, as it represents a global practice aimed at preparing young people, fostering national loyalty, and helping them be ready for military service when needed.
The committee members praised the proposed idea, highlighting its significance and role in preparing the youth. They discussed the material, technical, and logistical challenges related to the sectors involved in implementing national service. The meeting also covered the appropriate age and time period for executing the service and reviewed successful models in several Arab and regional countries. The committee further examined how the proposed idea aligns with the provisions of the national education law.
The committee members stressed the importance of incorporating this initiative into a comprehensive national strategy that aligns with Oman Vision 2024. They emphasized focusing on professional aspects related to artificial intelligence, innovation, technical knowledge, and nanotechnology industries, which have become crucial due to the massive global knowledge revolution.
The meeting also reviewed a message from citizens, which was referred by the Bureau Council to the committee, concerning "The Request to Reduce the Years of Service in the Social Protection System for Workers in the Gulf Cooperation Council States, including those in the military and other sectors." The committee deliberated on the issue from various angles and decided to study the matter further, preparing a report with recommendations to be submitted to the relevant authority for consideration.
The meeting was chaired by H.E Younis Ali Al-Mandhari, head of the Committee, and in the presence of their Excellencies members of the committee.
