11 نوفمبر 2025

The Health and Social Affairs Committee of the Shura Council held its first regular meeting of the third annual session (2025-2026) of the Tenth Term (2023-2027) this morning under the chairmanship of Mansour Zahir Al-Hajri, Chairman of the Committee, and in the presence of the Honourable members. The meeting addressed a number of items on its agenda in line with the Committee’s legislative remit.
At the outset, the Committee reviewed the motion submitted concerning the establishment of a natural reserve at Jabal Al Madhar in the Governorate of North Al-Sharqiyah. The discussion covered various technical and procedural aspects relating to the reserve’s creation, including regulatory requirements and environmental studies needed to ensure the sustainability of the natural resources and preservation of ecological balance in the region.
In addition, the Committee examined the 2024 Annual Report of the Ministry of Health, during which members considered key observations and recommendations aimed at enhancing the Ministry’s performance and improving the quality of healthcare services provided to the citizens, thereby bolstering the efficiency of the Sultanate of Oman’s health-care system.
The meeting also discussed the opinion of the State Council on the draft Civil Society Institutions Law, in preparation for the upcoming joint session between the corresponding committees of the State Council and the Shura Council to review provisions where differences exist. The coordination between the two chambers signals a continued commitment to aligning legislative perspectives on government-referred bills.
