Water Committee Approves Final Report on “Future Agricultural Cities: Opportunities and Challenges

      The Food and Water Security Committee of the Shura Council held its eighth regular meeting on Monday as part of the Third Annual sitting (2025–2026) of the Council’s Tenth Term, H.E. Abdullah Ahmed Al-Malik, Head of the Committee, and in the presence of their Excellencies the committee members.
During the meeting, the committee approved its final report on the proposal titled “Future Agricultural Cities: Opportunities and Challenges.” The study aimed to identify the challenges facing future agricultural cities and explore ways to enhance their development in support of sustainable food security and economic diversification in line with Oman Vision 2040.
The committee engaged with a number of relevant stakeholders, including the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, the Oman Agricultural Association, and specialists from Sultan Qaboos University. The report examined the significance of agricultural cities and highlighted the key investment opportunities they offer, while also addressing the challenges and obstacles affecting their development. It further presented a set of recommendations intended to strengthen the role of these cities in achieving food security and self-sufficiency.
The meeting also included a review of the annual report of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, as well as an assessment of the recent regular session dedicated to discussing the statement delivered by H.E. the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources before members of the Council.
