Shura Council Participates Virtually in the 39th Conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union

The Shura Council participated in the 39th Conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), held virtually on Thursday and hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under the theme “An Arab Parliamentary Vision for a More Stable and Sustainable Future.” The Council’s delegation was headed by H.E. Said Hamad Al Saadi, Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council. The conference brought together Speakers and representatives of Arab parliaments as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Arab parliamentary coordination and enhance joint action in addressing regional and international developments.
The conference was chaired by H.E. Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Al Sheikh, Speaker of the Shura Council of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, following the transfer of the presidency of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union to the Saudi parliamentary delegation in accordance with the Union’s Charter. Participants discussed a number of agenda items, foremost among them the Presidency Report, the Secretary-General’s Report on the implementation of the resolutions of the 38th Conference, and the activities of the Union’s General Secretariat during the previous period. The conference also reviewed recommendations submitted by the Executive Committee concerning the development of the Union’s organizational and legislative frameworks and the enhancement of joint Arab parliamentary action.
The conference further examined a number of organizational and strategic matters related to the work of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, including the draft Rules of Procedure of the Union, the Internal Regulations of the Arab Geopolitical Group within the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), and the regulatory framework of the Arab Parliamentary Excellence Award. Discussions also addressed mechanisms for voting on emergency items during IPU meetings and the adoption of a methodology for preparing the final communiqués of AIPU conferences, with a view to strengthening institutional efficiency and advancing Arab parliamentary cooperation.
Participants additionally reviewed the Union’s financial and administrative affairs, including the final accounts for the 2025 fiscal year, the proposed programme of work, and the draft budget for 2026, as well as a proposal concerning the distribution of financial contributions among member parliamentary delegations, aimed at ensuring the sustainability of the Union’s activities and programmes.
The conference also discussed ways to strengthen Arab representation within the Inter-Parliamentary Union and enhance coordination among Arab parliaments regarding nominations and parliamentary positions at the international level. Participants reviewed the work of the
Palestine Committee and other issues related to advancing Arab parliamentary cooperation and expanding coordination among Arab legislative institutions in support of common Arab interests and priorities.
Participants underscored the importance of continuing Arab parliamentary efforts to enhance coordination and consultation across regional and international parliamentary forums, while further developing parliamentary diplomacy tools to ensure a stronger and more effective presence on issues of common concern. Particular emphasis was placed on supporting just Arab causes, foremost among them the Palestinian cause, and promoting development, stability, and integration among Arab states.
The convening of the 39th Conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union reflects the Union’s commitment to advancing the system of joint Arab parliamentary action, strengthening cooperation among Arab parliaments, and reinforcing their role in supporting development, stability, and the protection of common Arab interests, in line with the aspirations of Arab peoples for a more stable and sustainable future.
The Shura Council delegation participating in the conference comprised H.E. Said Hamad Al Saadi, Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council; H.E. Ahmed Mohammed Al Nadabi, Secretary-General of the Shura Council; H.E. Dr. Hamood Ahmed Al Yahyaei, Member of the Shura Council and Member of the Executive Committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union; and H.E. Abdullah Hamad Al Harthi, Member of the Shura Council.
The Shura Council’s participation in these Arab parliamentary meetings reflects its commitment to strengthening its presence in regional parliamentary forums, exchanging expertise and best practices with Arab parliaments, and contributing to the advancement of joint parliamentary action in support of Arab cooperation and issues of common interest.
