H.E. Ahmed Al Nadabi, Secretary-General of the Shura Council, participated in the proceedings of the 47th Meeting of the Association of Secretaries General of Arab Parliaments, held virtually on the sidelines of the 39th Conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), under the theme: “Activating Research and Information Centres to Rationalise Parliamentary Decision-Making and Enhance Legislative Performance.”
The meeting discussed a number of organisational and administrative matters included on its agenda, with a view to strengthening institutional continuity and advancing the Association’s objectives in supporting and developing joint Arab parliamentary action.
The meeting also reviewed a number of parliamentary experiences related to its main theme through specialised working papers aimed at strengthening the role of research and information centres in supporting parliamentary work, enhancing decision-making processes, and improving the legislative and oversight performance of Arab councils and parliaments.
In this context, H.E. the Secretary-General of the Shura Council presented a working paper highlighting the Council’s experience in utilising specialised studies, research, and information resources to support the work of its permanent committees and facilitate discussions on matters referred to the Council. The paper outlined how these resources contribute to enhancing the efficiency of legislative and oversight outputs and improving the quality of evidence-based and knowledge-driven decisions. It also underscored the importance of advancing parliamentary research tools and leveraging modern technologies in parliamentary knowledge management.
The Shura Council’s paper further addressed institutional practices aimed at supporting parliamentary work through the provision of specialised databases and information resources, as well as the preparation of analytical studies and reference papers that enable Council members to perform their legislative and oversight responsibilities effectively and efficiently. The paper also highlighted the importance of establishing partnerships with research and academic institutions to strengthen the parliamentary ecosystem and keep pace with developments across various sectors.
During its proceedings, the 47th Meeting of the Association of Secretaries General of Arab Parliaments approved the Association’s final accounts for 2024 and endorsed the proposed budget for 2025, as part of its review of the financial and administrative matters related to the Association’s activities and future plans.
