The Shura Council participated in the proceedings of the Extraordinary 40th Session of the Executive Committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), represented by Hamood Al Yahyai, Member of the Council and Member of the Union’s Executive Committee. The meeting was held in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, over the period from 15 to 16 December 2025, under the chairmanship of Ibrahim Boughali, Chairman of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, and with the participation of representatives of the parliamentary delegations of the Union’s member states.
During the opening session, the Chairman of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union affirmed in his address that the reality currently experienced by the Palestinian people exceeds in its gravity all previous stages, necessitating a precise assessment of the emerging developments and the advancement of Arab parliamentary action mechanisms in line with the scale of these challenges. He noted that issues such as siege, displacement, reconstruction, and the protection of civilians have become daily features of the current situation, requiring the formulation of a comprehensive parliamentary action plan—political, humanitarian, and media-oriented—capable of influencing international public opinion and supporting the Palestinian position amid these highly complex circumstances.
He further emphasized that the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union will continue to serve as a sincere voice reflecting the unified Arab stance and steadfastly defending Palestinian rights, foremost among them the right to land and identity, and Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Palestine.
The meeting, which comprised two working sessions over two days, discussed the report of the Interim Financial Committee, the report of the Union’s General Secretariat, and the report of the Parliamentary Diplomacy Committee concerning the amendment of the voting mechanism on emergency items during the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), as well as the preparation of final statements for the Union’s conferences. The agenda also included deliberations on the emergency item to be submitted by the Arab Group during the 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, scheduled to be held in the Republic of Türkiye next April.
In the same context, members of the Executive Committee listened to the report of the Secretary-General of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union on the Union’s activities since the last Executive Committee meeting, which outlined progress in implementing the resolutions adopted by the Union.
It is worth noting that through these meetings, the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union seeks to strengthen Arab parliamentary cooperation as a fundamental pillar of Arab solidarity, represent the collective will of Arab peoples, enhance coordination and cooperation among Arab states, engage with representatives of executive authorities, and articulate unified Arab positions on issues, challenges, and risks facing the Arab world in various international forums. The Union also aims to support the rights of Arab youth, women, and children, strengthen engagement with civil society organizations and Arab institutions, and promote dialogue and joint parliamentary initiatives to coordinate Arab efforts across multiple fields.
