Shura Council Participates via Videoconference in Meeting of the Interim Parliamentary Diplomacy Committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union

The Shura Council took part this morning (Monday), represented by His Excellency Dr Hamoud Al Yahyai, Member of the Council, in the meeting of the Interim Parliamentary Diplomacy Committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, held via videoconference. The meeting addressed a number of organisational and parliamentary matters on its agenda.
Discussions during the meeting covered the proposed amendment to the voting mechanism for emergency items during the General Assembly meetings of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), alongside the proposed initiative to strengthen joint parliamentary cooperation within the framework of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States. The meeting also considered the request submitted by the Council of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member Nations regarding the granting of observer status to the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union.
The meeting further discussed developments regarding candidacy for the position of President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. In this context, participants underlined the importance of the active engagement of the Interim Parliamentary Diplomacy Committee's members in the meeting and its deliberations, so as to advance the completion of the matters referred to the Committee and formulate the necessary recommendations ahead of their submission to the Executive Committee.
The Shura Council's participation in the work of the Interim Parliamentary Diplomacy Committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union reflects its keenness to strengthen its presence and active engagement in Arab parliamentary forums, and to contribute to the development of joint parliamentary work mechanisms, alongside the exchange of views and consultation on the topics, initiatives and requests included on the Union's agenda.
