The Shura Council received this morning (Monday) a delegation from the National Defence College of India, currently on an official visit to the Sultanate of Oman. The visit aims to familiarise the delegation with Oman's parliamentary experience and to introduce the Council's roles and mandates as defined under the Law of the Council of Oman.
The delegation was received by His Excellency Saeed Al Saadi, Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council. The meeting opened with an affirmation of the deep-rooted historical relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the friendly Republic of India, and the growth and development these relations continue to witness across various fields.
During the meeting, His Excellency reviewed the course of parliamentary work in the Sultanate of Oman and its stages of development, outlining the Shura Council's mandates and roles as set out in the Basic Statute of the State and the Law of the Council of Oman. He also addressed the Council's role in supporting the development process and participating in the discussion of national issues, in addition to reviewing legislative work mechanisms, the role of the Secretariat General in supporting the work of the Council and its Members, the system governing ordinary sittings, and the mandates and working mechanisms of the standing committees.
The visit programme also included a familiarisation tour of the Council building, encompassing the Shura Council's plenary hall, where the delegation received a briefing on its facilities and the modern technologies used in managing sittings and the electronic voting mechanism on draft laws. The delegation also visited the Library of the Council of Oman, where it was introduced to the knowledge resources, books and recent studies available to support parliamentary work.
