In line with the Shura Council’s commitment to supporting the sports sector and enhancing its role in national development, the Youth and Human Resources Committee hosted today (Tuesday) His Excellency Basil Ahmed Al Rawas, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Sports and Youth Affairs. The session was held as part of the Committee’s twelfth meeting during the second annual session of the Tenth Term (2023–2027), chaired by His Excellency Younis Ali Al Mandhari, Head of the Committee, and attended by honorable committee members.
The session featured a comprehensive discussion on the current state of sports in the Sultanate of Oman. His Excellency the Undersecretary highlighted the Ministry’s efforts in developing the sports sector by strengthening and sustaining infrastructure, providing technical and logistical support to clubs, sports associations, and community teams—aligned with Oman Vision 2040 and the National Sports Strategy.
Future plans to establish a sports sector capable of significantly contributing to the national economy were also discussed. This includes enhancing investments through cooperation with the Oman Investment Authority and national companies and launching innovative initiatives, such as the Sports Lab, to shape ministerial and grassroots efforts.
His Excellency also reviewed approaches to encouraging the private sector to enter long-term partnerships with sports institutions. Successful models in this regard were examined, along with the vital role of endowment funds in providing financial and organizational support to local clubs. The development of clubs into multi-sport incubators and talent development centers was emphasized.
The meeting also explored the importance of diversifying sports disciplines and expanding the competitive base at regional and international levels—beyond football—by supporting both individual and team sports with strong potential for global achievement. The discussion included the Ministry’s digital transformation efforts aimed at enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of Oman’s sports system.
Key challenges facing community clubs—especially in administrative and financial aspects—were raised, including the burden of certain fees and the extent of ministry-provided support in enabling clubs to meet their goals.
In conclusion, committee members stressed the importance of developing sports facilities that meet youth aspirations across Oman’s governorates, empowering sports federations to strengthen their financial and investment capabilities, and enhancing their autonomy—thereby creating a

competitive sports environment capable of attracting talent and delivering achievements at the regional and international levels.
