As part of its commitment to fostering parliamentary diplomacy and legislative transparency, the Shura Council of the Sultanate of Oman welcomed a delegation from the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Command and Staff College of the Saudi Arabian National Guard. The delegation was led by Brigadier General Abdulrahman Selmi Eid Al-Otaibi and is currently on an official visit to Oman.

The session also highlighted the Shura Council’s journey, its competencies, and powers as stipulated in the Basic Law of the State and the Law of the Council of Oman. Discussions covered the legislative process for draft laws referred to the Council, as well as legislative initiatives proposed by the Council itself.

The delegation was briefed on the oversight tools available to Shura Council members, the mechanisms for exercising them under the Law of the Council of Oman, and the Council’s effective role in shaping national decision-making and achieving the objectives of Oman Vision 2040. The delegation also learned about the working mechanisms of the Council’s standing committees, the procedures followed during regular sessions, and the technical support services provided by the General Secretariat to the Council members.

As part of the visit, the delegation toured the Council’s main deliberation hall, familiarizing themselves with its state-of-the-art technologies, and visited the Council of Oman Library. The visiting delegation expressed their admiration for Oman’s Shura experience and the distinctive architectural design of the Council of Oman.
