Food and Water Committee Discusses Omani Agricultural Association’s Letter on Najd Farms

29 يونيو 2026

The Food and Water Security Committee of the Shura Council held its ninth regular meeting of the Third Annual sitting (2025–2026) on Monday morning, chaired by H.E. Abdullah Al Malik Al Shuhi, Head of the Committee. The meeting forms part of the Committee’s ongoing efforts to follow up on issues related to the development of the food and water security sectors and to enhance the sustainability of agricultural activities across the Sultanate of Oman.

During the meeting, the Committee reviewed a letter submitted by the Omani Agricultural Association in Dhofar Governorate regarding the situation of Najd Farms in Dhofar. The letter outlined a number of demands and challenges facing farmers, aimed at strengthening the sustainability of agricultural activities in the region and improving their productivity.

The Committee emphasized the importance of carefully examining the issues raised in the Association’s letter, particularly the need to reduce farm usufruct fees and to take into account the circumstances of local farmers when determining such fees. The Committee stressed that this would help strike a balance between the requirements of agricultural investment and enabling local farmers to continue their agricultural activities while contributing to the Sultanate’s food security objectives.

The meeting comes as part of the Food and Water Security Committee’s continued efforts to monitor issues affecting the agricultural sector and to engage with the challenges faced by farmers, with the aim of supporting sustainable agricultural development and strengthening food security in the Sultanate of Oman.
