Education Committee Reviews Quality of Professional Teacher Training and Recommends Enhanced Institutional Integration

As part of its oversight role in monitoring specialized training institutions, the Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation Committee of the Shura Council conducted a field visit to the Specialized Institute for Vocational Training for Teachers. The purpose of the visit was to assess the institute’s training and qualification programs, understand the standards and mechanisms of program implementation and impact evaluation, identify current challenges, and evaluate how well the institute’s outcomes align with the needs of the education sector in the Sultanate of Oman.
The delegation was led by H.E. Jamal Ahmed Al-Abri, head  of the Committee, accompanied and in the presence of their Excellencies members of the committee.. The delegation was welcomed by institute officials and educational program supervisors.
During the visit, the committee attended a comprehensive presentation delivered by the institute's specialists, outlining the institute’s mission, operational model, and its main training programs designed for teachers, supervisors, and administrators. The presentation also addressed professional development systems, both at central and decentralized levels, as well as evaluation and accreditation frameworks implemented to ensure quality execution.
The presentation highlighted the institute’s efforts in educational research, particularly in improving teaching practices and assessing the effectiveness of training programs. The institute’s local and international partnerships and initiatives aimed at capacity building and knowledge exchange were also discussed.
The  delegation toured several sections and training facilities within the institute. Experts provided a detailed overview of curriculum and program design processes, and how these are updated to align with educational developments and international standards. The committee was also briefed on key challenges facing implementation of certain initiatives and how the Council’s oversight tools could support overcoming them.
The members expressed keen interest in the topics presented and raised several questions about impact measurement indicators, ongoing monitoring of training outcomes in the field, and the effectiveness of the institute’s research in enhancing teaching performance. The delegation reviewed several educational research studies conducted by the institute, which addressed strategic issues in teaching, assessment, and educational leadership. Key findings and recommendations from these studies were presented as contributions to educational policy development and quality improvement.
H.E. Jamal bin Ahmed Al-Abri commended the efforts of the institute’s leadership and academic staff in advancing and qualifying Oman’s educational workforce. He emphasized that the visit reflects the committee’s commitment to monitoring specialized training programs and institutions, aiming to raise the quality of education across all levels.
He also reiterated the committee’s focus on evaluating the real impact of training programs, improving outcome quality in line with sustainable development needs, and supporting the goals of Oman Vision 2040. His Excellency further stressed the importance of strengthening partnerships between the committee and training institutions to ensure integrated efforts and measurable progress in the education sector.
