During a Meeting with the President of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences Education Committee Discusses Challenges Facing the University and Localization of Academic Positions

The Education, Research, and Innovation Committee of the Shura Council hosted today (Tuesday) His Excellency Dr. Saeed Hamad Al-Rubaie, President of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences, along with several university officials.
 
During the meeting, the committee discussed various topics and issues related to the new regulatory framework of the university and compared it with previous regulations and decisions, particularly regarding the academic system and success rates. The discussions also covered the effectiveness of the academic staff localization program and the educational bridging program and their impact on the quality of educational outcomes and school education.
The committee further reviewed statistical data on the number of students admitted to colleges and the number of students who have withdrawn from their studies, exploring the reasons behind these withdrawals. The meeting also examined the extent to which infrastructure, resources, and technological capabilities align with the growing number of students enrolled at the university’s various colleges. In addition, the committee reviewed key laws and regulations governing academic and support staff roles.
This meeting was held as part of the committee’s 13th regular meeting during the second annual session (2024–2025) of the Tenth Term, chaired by His Excellency Jamal Ahmed Al-Abri, Chairman of the Committee, in the presence of Their Excellences the committee members.
During the discussions, the committee members presented several observations and suggestions related to the university’s operations and development initiatives, particularly in regard to replacement policies and enhancing the competencies of Omani academic staff. They also reviewed the university’s plans in these areas.
The committee also discussed a proposed recommendation regarding behavioral issues among students in public schools and reviewed its position on the matter. Additionally, the committee reviewed a proposed recommendation related to employing female graduates in Information Technology who have obtained a teaching qualification. The committee approved the recommendations and took the appropriate actions accordingly.
