Economic Committee reviews Innovation and Scientific Research Efforts in the Energy Sector with Energy Development Oman

During the meeting, representatives from the two companies delivered a presentation outlining their innovation, research, and development ecosystem. They highlighted an integrated approach that begins with identifying operational challenges, followed by exploring and evaluating emerging technologies, conducting field trials, and ultimately adopting solutions that demonstrate their ability to improve efficiency and generate added value. This approach contributes to the sustainability of operations while keeping pace with global technological advancements in the energy sector.

The presentation also highlighted the companies’ contributions to strengthening Oman’s national research ecosystem through funding research and development programs, supporting researchers and postgraduate students, publishing peer-reviewed scientific papers, and fostering collaboration with academic and research institutions, as well as the Ejaad platform. In addition, the companies continue to develop national partnerships aimed at aligning scientific research priorities with national and industrial needs, while contributing to the establishment of an integrated national innovation and knowledge transfer ecosystem.

The presentation further showcased a number of applied initiatives undertaken by the two companies in the fields of digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and technology development. It also highlighted efforts to maximize the value of innovation outputs by commercializing developed technologies, alongside projects that reduce operating costs, improve production efficiency, enhance environmental sustainability, and strengthen local content. These initiatives reflect the companies’ commitment to leveraging scientific research and innovation to create sustainable economic value for the energy sector.

Committee members then raised a number of questions and observations focusing on the companies’ efforts to develop advanced technologies that enhance oil production, reduce operational costs, and improve production efficiency in line with the technical characteristics and extraction conditions of Oman’s oil fields. Discussions also addressed mechanisms for translating research outcomes into practical applications that strengthen the competitiveness of the energy sector.

The meeting also reviewed a number of the  research and innovation initiatives supported by the two companies and the results achieved in developing technological solutions, empowering national talent, and expanding partnerships with research and academic institutions, thereby supporting Oman’s national innovation agenda and enhancing the sustainability of the energy sector.

The meeting was chaired by H.E. Dr. Abdulaziz Rashid Al Hashmi, Deputy Chairman of the Committee of the Shura Council, and in the presence of their Excellencies members of the committee.
