The Shura Council approved the report of the study of the Economic and Financial Committee of the Council on the performance of some state-owned companies in order to raise the contribution of these companies in the GDP and enhance government revenues. The Council decided to refer it to the government.
The aim of the study is to identify the achievements of government companies in addition to the obstacles they face within the context of supporting the economic development in the country.
The study concluded with a number of recommendations to enhance the performance of the companies in several areas, including: financial statements and governance systems, support for small and medium enterprises, added value, labor market, and Omanization.
The sitting began with a speech by the Chairman of the Council who condemned the measures of transferring the US Embassy to Jerusalem by a unilateral decision, which affects the legal status of the city under occupation and undermines the efforts of the peace process in the Middle East.
During his speech, His Excellency congratulated His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Omani people and the Islamic nation on the occasion of Ramadan.
During the regular sitting, the members were briefed on the Maritime Transport Agreement between the Government of the Sultanate and the Government of the Republic of India. The members of the Council also listened to a series of responses of the Ministers and officials of some governmental units.
