Legislative and Legal Committee of the Shura Council Approves Its Opinion on the Regulations Governing the Exercise of Parliamentary Oversight Instruments and Examines Petition Concerning Law Firms

The Legislative and Legal Committee of the Shura Council discussed, during its fourteenth meeting held this morning (Monday), a number of regulations and procedures governing the exercise of certain parliamentary oversight instruments stipulated in the Oman Council Law. The Committee conducted extensive deliberations covering the various legal and procedural aspects associated with these instruments and subsequently approved its opinion thereon in a manner that serves the public interest, enhances the effectiveness of parliamentary practice, and is consistent with the provisions and objectives of the Law.
The Committee also reviewed a petition concerning the implications of restricting the activities of law firms providing integrated legal services and limiting their practice to a single legal field. It examined the various professional and regulatory dimensions related to the matter, as well as the potential impact on the nature of legal services provided and the mechanisms governing their practice.
In this context, the Committee initiated the necessary procedures to host representatives of the Oman Lawyers Association in order to review its views and proposals regarding the petition and discuss the various aspects associated with the matter, thereby contributing to the study and helping formulate a comprehensive perspective on the subject.
The meeting was chaired by H.E. Dr. Ahmed bin Ali Al Saadi, Chairman of the Legislative and Legal Committee of the Shura Council, in the presence of Their Excellencies members of the Committee.
