Members of the Shura Council praises the management of the severe climatic conditions and calls for reviewing the plan to use coal

Shura Council continues discussing the statement of the Minister of Environment and Climate Affairs, H.E. Mohammed bin Salem Al-Tobi, as part of the 22nd ordinary sitting of the Council for the third annual session (2017-2018) of the eighth term (2015-2019).
 
 
The statement included six key themes covering the development of the environment and climate affairs sector, training and qualifiaction of national cadres, coordination with environmental authorities, environmental licenses, international agreements on environmental issues and the relation between the ministry and the local community.
 
Urgent Statement
 
During the meeting, H.E. Mohammed bin Muslim Habbis, member of the Economic and Financial Committee, presented an urgent statement on the climatic conditions that affected Dhofar Governorate. He called for the formation of a ministerial committee to consider the losses caused by the cyclone, and to ensure broad protection of vegetation.
 
Member Discussions
 
For the second day, members of the Shura Council raised many questions and inquiries, most of which focused on the importance of forming a ministerial committee to consider the losses caused by the cyclone. They also requested the ministry to reconsider the fees of the environmental activities, including factory licenses. In this regard, the Minister said that the cancellation of fees is not on the table currently. Their Excellencies also inquired about the Ministry's efforts to preserve the wadis from the remnants of the building materials, pointing out the need for a plan to address this issue and reduce its impact.
