The bureau of the Shura Council reviewed a request for discussion with the Minister of Education regarding the impact of the current weather conditions (rainy weather) on schools in the North Al Sharqiyah Governorate. The request, submitted by honorable members of the council, expressed their desire to understand the reasons behind the incidents resulting in the deaths of students in the schools of Al Mudhaibi Wilayat, as well as the ministry's procedures for dealing with the weather conditions.
The request for discussion is one of the available tools for council members according to Article 69 of the Oman Council Law, which allows discussion and exchange of opinions with relevant ministers on topics falling within the council's jurisdiction. The office has tasked the Education, Higher Education, and Scientific Research Committee of the council with hosting relevant authorities to understand the causes related to the incidents of student deaths in Al Mudhaibi Wilayat schools, studying the measures taken by these authorities in dealing with the situation, and exploring appropriate solutions to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
During the meeting, the office also reviewed a request for clarification addressed to the Minister of Health regarding the employment of graduates specializing in medical equipment engineering, inquiring about the reasons for not employing these graduates despite the importance of their specialization in studying and developing medical equipment and devices.
Furthermore, the office forwarded the annual report on the projects of the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology for the year 2023 to the Economic and Financial Committee of the council after its review. The discussion of ministers' reports is conducted in accordance with Article 55 of the Oman Council Law, which requires ministers to provide an annual report on the stages of implementing projects under their ministries and allows the council to invite them to present statements on matters within their ministries' jurisdiction and discuss them.
Additionally, the office was briefed on the response of the Mayor of Muscat Municipality regarding addressing the traffic congestion issue in Al Seeb Wilayat, stating that the implementation of traffic consultancy services is currently being studied to provide sustainable solutions to traffic congestion.
This occurred during the ninth regular meeting of the bureau of the council for the first annual session of the tenth term (2023-2027), chaired by Tahir bin Mabkhout Al Junaibi, Deputy Chairman of the Council, and attended by members of the bureau and Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Ndabi, Secretary-General of the Council.
