During the meeting, His Excellency welcomed the visiting delegation and highlighted the strong brotherly ties between the Sultanate of Oman and the State of Qatar. He underscored the depth of these relations—historically, socially, culturally, and politically—and praised their ongoing development in various fields. His Excellency stressed the importance of activating the parliamentary role between the two councils through the exchange of expertise and visits to benefit from legislative experiences.
He also provided a summary of the Shura Council’s structure, powers, and key roles in serving Omani society and supporting government efforts to drive sustainable development. This includes the legislative tools and mechanisms granted to the Council as stipulated in the Basic Statute of the State and the Law of the Council of Oman.
For his part, His Excellency the Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Qatari Shura Council expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and hospitality extended by the Omani Shura Council. He affirmed the depth and strength of Qatari-Omani relations across various sectors and emphasized the need to expand joint parliamentary efforts to serve the interests of both brotherly nations.
The visit included a visual presentation for the Qatari delegation, outlining the core competencies and legislative roles of the Shura Council, procedures for regular sessions, the functions of the Council’s Office, and the work of its standing committees. The presentation also covered the Council’s contribution to national decision-making through the enhancement of the legislative environment in economic, educational, social, and service sectors.
The delegation was then given a guided tour of the Council’s facilities, including the main deliberation hall, where they received a brief explanation of the modern technologies used in managing sessions and the electronic voting system.
The meeting was also attended by His Excellency Salem Ali Al-Kaabi, Head of the Omani-Qatari Parliamentary Friendship Group, and His Excellency Ahmed Mohammed Al-Nadabi, Secretary-General of the Shura Council.
